HYDROTHERAPY
Our trained paediatric physiotherapist will take you through a course of hydrotherapy.
Our paediatric physiotherapists are happy to provide aquatic physiotherapy (hydrotherapy) on an individual basis.
Whilst water confidence and swimming are important elements of this method, it is much broader than those two elements. It encourages good motor skills and perception; social interaction; and an efficient respiratory system. And it is great fun!
It can be done individually or in groups, and may be an adjunct to other therapeutic interventions.
The therapist undertakes a full assessment, risk profiling and clinical reasoning to develop an appropriate plan individualised to the client.
Aquatic physiotherapists use a targeted program in the pool to address goals to improve a person’s strength, posture, balance or walking.
The key to hydrotherapy is the use of the properties of water (for example buoyancy, turbulence and resistance), to achieve specific goals. Exercise and therapy in a heated pool allows independence of movement that may not be possible on land. The buoyancy of the water supports your body and makes walking and movement in the water easier.
